In the world of design and architecture, some individuals have the remarkable ability to merge the realms of art, technology, and functionality seamlessly. One such visionary is London-based architect and designer, Umut Yamac. His innovative work is a testament to his multidisciplinary approach, exploring the fascinating middle ground between architecture and light. At the heart of his creative endeavors lies the mesmerizing Array collection of pendant lamps, a fusion of form, texture, and illumination that elevates the concept of lighting to an art form.
Umut Yamac's journey as a designer began with a solid foundation in architecture, having graduated from the prestigious Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London in 2009. He established his design studio in 2011, with a distinct focus on the human scale, bringing his ideas to life in the form of objects and installations that respond to both the user and the surrounding space through playful interaction and movement. Yamac's approach to design transcends the boundaries of traditional disciplines, resulting in a diverse range of creative outputs that span from collaborations with renowned lighting and furniture brands to bespoke installations and gallery pieces.
One of his most striking and captivating creations is the Array collection, developed in collaboration with Vibia. It represents the perfect convergence of Yamac's fascination with nature, his passion for hands-on craftsmanship, and his profound understanding of the interplay between light and space. Array is a collection of pendant lamps that harness the potential of delicate technical threads stretched between two aluminum rings to create lightweight and dynamic sculptures of light.
At the core of the Array collection are the exquisite three-dimensional models that appear to glow from above, casting a spellbinding play of light and shadow in any space they adorn. The silhouettes vary from large-scale conical to cylindrical shapes, and what makes this collection truly outstanding is its versatility. Each of these luminous sculptures can be combined to form a captivating installation, creating an entirely unique and immersive experience.
