Katie Uther Interior Designs and Marston Architects have joined forces to collaborate on the Fairfax House project. This transformative reimagination of an existing semi-detached dwelling focuses on seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor spaces while embracing the natural surroundings. Nestled within a serene, foliage-filled street, the steep north-facing site benefits from abundant sunlight and picturesque water views. The main goal was to maximize amenity by modifying the circulation and layout of the house.
Previously accessible via three levels of external stairs, a new lift at the rear of the garage now provides improved circulation and easy entry from street level. The ground floor retains the existing bedrooms while introducing a new entrance foyer created by reorienting the staircase to the first floor. The kitchen, formerly positioned at the rear of the dwelling, has been relocated to the north, directly linking it to the living and dining areas. Expansive sliding doors in the open-plan living space seamlessly spill onto the external deck, creating a greater sense of space internally and capturing the expansive views. A soft palette of materials complements and enhances the surrounding greenery.
In terms of lighting, the Fairfax House incorporates the stylish North pendant light by Vibia and the Fit recessed light by Arkoslight. These fixtures add elegance and sophistication to the interior. Additionally, the Pointer lights by Arkoslight offer focused illumination, while the Swap downlights, also by Arkoslight, contribute to a well-balanced and versatile lighting scheme throughout the house.
